What Is the Downhill Dreams Academy?

The Downhill Dreams Academy is a one-of-a-kind scholarship-based STEM program created through the partnership between Yamaha Motor Manufacturing Corporation and the Coweta Grand Prix team. Each year, students ages 8–14 are selected to participate through full scholarships that give them the opportunity to learn, build, and race at no cost.

Since its launch in 2023, the Downhill Dreams Academy has become the heart of the Coweta Grand Prix.

The Academy began when Yamaha’s president, Bob Brown, heard the early vision for the Coweta Grand Prix and immediately recognized an opportunity to support youth, creativity, and community impact. Rather than simply backing the event, Yamaha expanded the idea into an immersive mentorship program—giving young students access to hands-on engineering experiences and the chance to build something uniquely their own.

A Hands-On STEM Experience

At the Academy, Yamaha engineers and team members partner directly with students to guide them through:

Designing their own soapbox-style race car

Participating in hands-on assembly and testing

Understanding how physics and engineering affect speed and performance

Building creativity, problem-solving, and teamwork

Gaining real-world STEM exposure in a fun, supportive environment

The program is designed for students of all backgrounds — no engineering experience is required.

2026 Program Enhancements

The 2026 Academy introduces exciting new upgrades:

STEM Physics Workshop

A new interactive lesson exploring speed, friction, force, aerodynamics, and the general science behind racing.

More Hands-On Build Time

Each student receives additional one-on-one guidance for a deeper, more personalized building experience.

Sponsor-Themed Car Designs

Students will design their car using the theme, colors, or story of their sponsor’s company—bringing creativity and branding together on race day.
