RACING RULES & REGS

These Rules and Regulations apply to all entries. They have been created for your safety and the safety of others around you, based on best practice, common sense and experience. They enable us to run the event effectively for the maximum benefit of all – please ensure you read them carefully and comply with the details. For everyone’s benefit they will be enforced! Thank you.

The course is approximately 600 feet long. The event takes place in Downtown Newnan and runs down LaGrange St from Spring St to Gilbert St. The start will take place from an elevated ramp to give a gravity boost. Racers will be held in place with a gate system until released for the start. Racers will be timed with an electronic system. A heat race system will be employed based on best times achieved. The number of heats will be determined based on the final number of participants and event time allotted. Additional awards based on vehicle design or build execution will be awarded.

General Conditions

1. Any contravention of the Rules and Regulations may lead to disqualification or penalties.

2. The organizers reserve the right to refuse participation to any team at their discretion which will be final.

3. Vehicles and drivers may be scrutineered in the pits, prior to each run and at any other time, before being allowed to participate. If your vehicle does not comply with the safety requirements or specifications at any time during the day you will be disqualified.

4. The organizers reserve the right to disqualify any or all participants that demonstrate inappropriate and or unsafe conduct.

5. This is a public event and all participants agree for their photographs to be taken and used in the media.

Safety Regulations

1. All members of the team, by submitting an entry form, and their insurance disclaimer form, are deemed to agree with these Rules and Regulations.

2. All vehicles must be constructed with pedestrian-friendly sympathies. Sharp edges will not be permitted nor any protuberance, extension, or accessories e.g., lights, speakers or screens must be integral to the bodywork and affixed in a permanent manner.

3. No glass or other materials that would shatter or cause injuries to drivers and spectators in the event of a crash should be used in the construction of the vehicle.

4. Drivers must wear a helmet and gloves. Minimum bicycle type helmet required, motorcycle type helmets are optional.

5. The scrutineer’s decision is final. Scrutineers will have full access to the vehicles and component parts as required to carry out their duties throughout the day.

6. Teams are responsible for the on-going assessments on their vehicle during the event and are obliged to report any change in risk to the scrutineer.

7. No expressed or implied warranty of safety shall result from the publication of, or compliance with, these rules and/or regulations. These rules and regulations are in no way a guarantee against injury to team members, supporters or spectators.

Technical, Design, and Structural Regulations

1. Maximum length 96” measured from front to rear of the vehicle.

2. Maximum width 60” measured from outside to outside.

3. The maximum weight of the vehicle is 200lbs (vehicle only, not including driver). Vehicles may be weighed during scrutineering and prior to each race. Any vehicles weighing more than 200lbs will not be allowed to participate in the race. Please note that this is a safety requirement.

4. No protuberances outside these dimensions will be allowed.

5. There must be three or four wheels. All wheels should be in road contact during normal running. Ground clearance should be sufficient to clear the top and bottom of the starting grid – 4” minimum is recommended.

6. Good brake mechanisms are essential for safe stopping at the end of the course.

7. Seats must be securely bolted to the vehicle.

8. Vehicles must be designed to carry one person only (max two persons for adult competitors) in a feet first direction.

9. Any steering column, brake lever or other protrusion must be designed and fitted such that the risk of puncture injuries is minimized. A padded steering wheel is recommended.

10. Bodywork and controls must not impede the drivers in exiting the vehicle unaided.

11. Any doors or hatches required for driver access must be readily operated from both inside and outside the vehicle without the use of tools.

12. Vehicles must work using gravity only – i.e., no motors, no pedals and no stored potential energy.

13. No loose weights will be allowed inside or outside the vehicle.

14. Seatbelts are not mandatory but are strongly recommended.

15. Steering must not have excessive free play or any characteristic tending to promote instability.

16. Vehicles must have a tow eye securely attached to the front to allow for towing back to the start line.

Adult Race Guidelines

1. Adult teams of up to six people should perform a short (30 sec or less) cheer, song, display or chant before their first run to hype up the crowd.

2. Adult vehicles may have up to two people in the vehicle.

3. Obstacles may be added to the course to increase the excitement and difficulty level for adult drivers.
